February: Cats and a Party to Remember

Having installed a nice new kitchen we decided that the cats should stay out - and they were moved into the garage. We bought two nice new "igloo" cat baskets - a big one for Krispie and a small one for Peppie - as you can see, they didn't read the instructions:

Our friend Ian was 70 on 11 February and his family arranged a surprise birthday party for him on the 27 February. Unfortunately we were both convinced it was scheduled for the 20 February and so skipped church and drove up to St Albans - to find the venue empty and no sign of a party!

A phone call to a mutual friend informed us of the correct date and we went home - it not being possible to pop in to see Ian and Anne since this would have destroyed the surprise!

The following week we turned up again and had a great time:

Mr B -Ian Broxton   ... and the cake

Ian's older son, Mark, did a wonderful speech which I filmed:

Liz and John with Terry Bard. Terry and John have known each other since John was 11 and about to take his 11+. Terry, a year or so older was already at the local Grammar School and offered to show John around if he passed the exam: he didn't!

Terry's family lived just down Hollyhock Road in Saffron Walden and they share several friends from "the old days" in their home town
