July: Sunflowers, Walks, an Air Show, a Golden Wedding and the Queen

Flowers in the garden and wild flowers in the countryside - July was a good month. We celebrated Bob's 85th birthday on the 7th of July.

John went to Fairford Air Show with Terry and Robert - a friend of Terry's. The day started very wet but by the end of the day it was sunny with wonderful cloud formations to act as a backdrop to the flying.

We went to Phil's brother's golden wedding celebrations in Kent, though sadly Phil was not well enough to join us. We had a great day, meeting up with relative and enjoying the food and gardens.

John's sister, Dorothy, attends a Day Centre in Newmarket and, as a popular member was invited to be present when the Queen unveiled a plaque commemorating the Day Centre's 30th Anniversary. The Queen spoke to Dorothy but sadly we don't have a photograph of this conversation, but do have a couple of photographs to mark the day!

We didn't plant this sunflower - birds dropped the seed from their feeder! We walked around the windmill overlooking the A3 and into the country beyond.

We stopped to photograph men replacing a pylon - they can replace a pylon in a day! The weathervane on the windmill. We've driven past the windmill on the A3 thousands of times but have only walked to it twice!

Bob's 85th Birthday - we shared a Chinese take-a-way with Chris and Ed

I didn't know that Chinooks could do this! Fairford Air Show The Red Arrows

THE Vulcan - the only one still flying - note the air brakes: if it climbs without this in place it will be up to 10,000 feet in seconds - not good for an Air Show! See the video The Italian display team - hence the colours of the jet exhaust - we're so used to the red, white and blue of the Red Arrows!
